For many seniors, the internet provides a lifeline to humanity. With the Covid pandemic and so many shelter-in-place orders around the U.S. and in other parts of the world, seniors used to getting out daily and visiting with others suffer from loneliness and isolation.
The internet provides all sorts of stimulation for seniors, ways to meet new people and connect with friends, and more seniors are digitally connected than ever.
According to a Pew research study, 46% of online seniors use Facebook. This represents 27% of the total older adult population using social networking sites.
With that in mind, I’ve gathered a few internet sites that senior women might find enjoyable and useful. See what you think.
Fiesty Side of Fifty
If I were feeling less than secure or successful, I would find Eileen Williams’ site enlightening. This expert in career development, author, speaker, radio host and much more celebrates “a remarkable generation of women ages 50+ tackle jobs post 50.” She promotes aging with attitude and style.
I may not have the style but I do have the attitude!
WOW: A Blog for Older Women
Pat Taub is a family therapist, writer, activist and life-long feminist. She hopes WOW will start a conversation among older women who are fed up with the ageism and sexism in our culture.
She says, “I want to own my age without making excuses for my wrinkles and my changing physical form…hold my head high as I reflect on my accomplishments, my wisdom, my joys…”
I like her attitude.
Gretchen Rubin
A writer who believes in a “no-one-size-fits-all solution for becoming happier, healthier, more productive or more creative,” Rubin considers her work to be self-helpful rather than self-help.
She is the author of numerous books, an award-winning podcast, columnist for “O,” and more.
I like her upbeat attitude and want to read more.
Boom by Cindy Josef
Let me say that I am NOT an affiliate for this company but I could be! Any senior female who is concerned about the changes in her skin should check out this site.
The idea behind Boom is that less is more. As a woman who really dislikes wearing makeup, this is exactly what I want to hear. The company touts itself as the “only company that is pro-age.” I haven’t tried all their products yet but I love the ones I have tried.
Because I have dry skin, my favorite is Boom Silk. I cannot say enough about how this product feels and wears on my skin! I also use the Boomstick Trio daily as my go-to makeup. That Boomstick Color is perfect for lips, cheeks, and browbone.
I receive weekly emails with great tips and stories of women like me who use the products with great results. The products are all natural and never tested on animals. That alone would almost sell me!
Seniors Matter
Are you a gadget person? I am and enjoy browsing websites that offer the latest in products to make my life better, easier, more fun, etc. Check out the list with links at the Seniors Matter site.
The Grommet
This site may not be directed at seniors, but I love it! From a home pedicure kit with a raised stand to prop your foot on and then tucks under the chair cushion, to a birthstone Christmas ornament, to a Chardonnay Adult Board Game, The Grommet is a fun website!
